Introduction This is an induction course on undertaking research in the Humanities is held at the beginning of each academic year. We welcome interdisciplinary research involving more than one department: recent postgraduates have, for example, worked on topics combining German with Film and Visual Culture, Politics and Sociology. The Centre for Modern Thought is a broad cross-disciplinary initiative, whose aim is to explore the ways in which contemporary philosophy and theory can most effectively address ethical and socio-political issues in the Modern World. The Centre for Citizenship, Civil Society and the Rule of Law brings together scholars interested in the meaning of limits of citizenship, civil society and the rule of law, and links between these ideas.
