The Graduate Diploma of Arts (Specialisation) enables graduates to undertake postgraduate coursework study in one of a range of Humanities, Social Sciences or Law specialisations. The course has been designed so that students can build on knowledge they have gained through their undergraduate study or gain advanced knowledge in a new area of study. Graduates will have the advanced cognitive, theoretical and communication skills necessary for professional or highly skilled work and/or further learning. This on-campus, one year full-time (or, up to 3 consecutive years part-time) course is available at Hobart and/or Launceston (not all specialisations are available on both campuses). Once completed, students may continue their studies and articulate into the Master of Arts (Specialisation/s). The following specialisations are available within the GradDipArts(Spec): International Politics Police Studies Public Policy Learning Outcomes Upon completion of the Graduate Diploma of Arts (Specialisation) (AQF Level 8) graduates will: Acquire, critically evaluate, reflect and synthesise advanced knowledge in one of the humanities, social sciences or law disciplines. Critically analyse challenging complex or multi-faceted problems, identify research questions, acknowledge different perspectives and demonstrate advanced understanding of theoretical concepts in a specific area of study. Communicate disciplinary perspectives and knowledge effectively and ethically, to specialist and non-specialist audiences using written, oral and visual means. Demonstrate knowledge, independence, research skills and judgement in planning, problem solving and decision making in professional practice and/or scholarship. Work effectively, responsibly, respectfully and safely in individual and/or team contexts. Demonstrate self-management, flexibility, initiative and resilience in readiness for diverse workplace demands. Career outcomes In Australia and around the world, employers are increasingly seeking graduates who can speak and write clearly; who are computer literate and understand how to use technology; who know about other countries, cultures and societies; who can solve problems creatively; and who have developed that flexibility of thought which technical and vocational training rarely encourages. Arts graduates find jobs in, for example, advertising, journalism, the arts, diplomacy, interpreting and tourism, management and administration, and research and publishing.
