On this course you’ll think of yourself more as a ‘team-entrepreneur’ than a student. You’ll learn through doing real business, not simulations, supported by team-based coaching.You’ll start up and run your own business projects in teams from the first semester. You’ll need to be organised and to take control of your learning. Your experience will be more intense than more traditionally taught degrees and you’ll have real personal and commercial responsibility and exposure from the outset. Trading outcomes will be uncertain and you will learn from your failures as well as your successes. This will enable you to develop ‘can-do’ confidence, self-discipline, a willingness to take risks, the ability to demonstrate original thought and initiative, and to become an effective team player.Structured around the three strands of personal, team and business-project learning; over the course of three years the course will develop in you the entrepreneurial mind-set, entrepreneurial capability and entrepreneurial effectiveness. Themes include creativity and innovation; opportunity recognition, creation and evaluation; decision making, critical analysis and judgement; implementation of ideas through leadership and management; reflection and self-awareness; interpersonal skills, communication skills and strategic thinking.You will learn and apply appropriate business generation strategies; the identification of target markets and how to put an idea into action taking into account both financial and legal implications, issues of intellectual property and doing business responsibly. You will also appreciate that value is created in many different forms. You will gain experience of marketing, research and competitor analysis as well as how to secure and use resources effectively.This course is one of the first of its kind in the UK and it takes inspiration from the success of Finland’s innovative Team Academy, where one out of three graduates start a business right after finishing their studies.
