Studying the MSc Computing and Information Technology with Advanced Practice programme offers you an excellent opportunity to learn the most up-to-date computing knowledge required by employers with the opportunity to secure a work placement or complete a research study project. This option offers the opportunity to spend three months gaining all-important work experience and employability skills in a professional work setting. You may be able to extend this over more than one semester in cases where it is adjacent to a vacation period. Support is provided to help source opportunities and to perfect the applicant CV but ultimately the onus is on the student to secure the internship position. Upon graduating, opt to further develop your skills and employability with Professional Pathways programmes through one of the UK’s leading IT and project management training providers, QA. Throughout the duration of your course, you will participate in group work to complete practical tasks that simulate real-life situations and experience standard professional practice. You will be expected to engage in independent study involving directed and self-directed learning. You will also have one-to-one support on your preparation for and the execution of your final project, where you will be able to specialise in an area of interest. Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) is embedded throughout the course with tools such as the ‘Blackboard’ eLearning Portal and electronic reading lists that will guide your preparation for seminars and independent research. Significant emphasis is placed on developing your ability to complete a Masters degree. As part of induction you will be made fully familiar with the learning resources and support available to you. There will also be weekly academic support sessions designed to build your confidence and ability as a postgraduate learner. You will also be allocated an individual guidance tutor at induction. You will meet this tutor at regular intervals across your period of study. Graduates from this course will have opportunities in a range of exciting careers in the IT industry. You may go on to use your technical skills to develop software applications, or your strategic knowledge to build and deploy applications in a business environment or lead projects as project managers.
