This course will provide students with a clear understanding of the scientific basis underlying the principles and clinical practice of oncology and the development, evaluation and implementation of new treatments. This will be underpinned by a thorough knowledge of cancer biology and pathology, drug development and research methodologies. This knowledge will provide you with a good grounding in the clinical practice of oncology which will enhance prospects for those pursuing a clinical academic career. All written assignments will be submitted through the portal, while poster and oral presentations will be assessed via Skype. Exams can be sat onsite at QMUL or you can arrange to sit these at a suitable venue more local to you. You are encouraged to interact with teaching staff and other students in online discussion forums, join group activities and be part of the Institute’s student community. Assessment will be based on written assignments, posters and oral presentations, multiple choice questions (MCQ) and short-answer question (SAQ) examinations, and a full laboratory project write-up. As a student at Queen Mary, you will play an active part in your acquisition of skills and knowledge. A variety of teaching and learning methods will be employed including; seminars, laboratory practice sessions, self-directed learning, one–to-one tutorials, case presentations, reading lists of books and journal papers. You are assigned an Academic Adviser who will guide you in both academic and pastoral matters throughout your time at Queen Mary.
