This is a specialist conversion course designed for non-Psychology graduates who wish to pursue a career as a psychologist. It confers eligibility for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC), which is the first step towards becoming a Chartered Psychologist. You’ll gain a thorough grounding in core psychological theories and methodologies, as well as their origins, history and development. In addition to the traditional full or part-time campus-based course, we offer a more flexible, blended learning experience, which incorporates a mixture of online and short residential study. Each individual module on the course has some form of assessment and there is generally a 50/50 split between coursework, which can be worked on over a period of weeks, and examinations. The form of assessment is wide-ranging – most include essays, but there are also practical reports and multiple choice tests along with a test development exercise, case study, presentation, and even an annotated bibliography. You will receive guidance on how to tackle each assessment during the course. Typically, students will be assessed on their ability to practically and effectively apply the principles, theories and research of psychology to a workplace case study. We will also look for a critical and nuanced understanding of the relevant psychological literature. On successful completion, you should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of psychological theory, debates and concepts; a range of quantitative and qualitative psychological research methods and ethical principles; the core areas of psychology; a range of research and theory within specialist topic areas; the selective application of research methodologies in psychological investigations.
