Electrical and electronic technology is now indispensable in modern life – powering our transport and communication systems and supplying essential energy to our homes and businesses. This course aims to prepare you for careers in and out of engineering that rely on the rapidly developing, high-speed technology of embedded microelectronics and wireless systems. This includes a focus on real-time applications, such as mobile communications and wireless sensing. If you have studied or have professional experience in electronics or computing, this Master’s course is designed to expand your knowledge of and expertise in technologies associated with embedded microprocessor applications. The assessment types are varied throughout the course with both individual and group work assessed using methods, such as presentations, laboratory work, formal examinations, technical reports, in-class test, online quizzes, posters and computer simulation employing Simulink, Matlab, Multisim and PSCAD. Assessment methods typically feature a 50/50 split between formal examinations and coursework, though this varies for each module, some of which are entirely assessed by coursework. On successful completion, you should have knowledge of: advanced principles of electrical and electronic engineering and their relationships to leading-edge, real-world applications; advanced analysis and design tools and processes relevant to embedded microelectronics and communications; the implementation and critical evaluation of design solutions through simulation and practical applications; and the main approaches to research design, sampling and analysis appropriate to construct research questions or hypotheses.
