This Master’s in Contemporary Arts continues a long tradition of innovation and creativity at Coventry University since 1843. In 2016, we celebrated the 30th anniversary of the launch of what was then Europe’s first postgraduate electronic arts/graphics course. Today, a thriving PhD and applied research culture builds is aided by creative partnerships with Turner Prize-winning projects, external arts organisations, funders and industrial links. If you have a passion for contemporary art, this course provides an opportunity to discover the value of art and culture, with an emphasis on the fostering of individual creativity through innovative practice within the broader context of the creative industries and related professional arenas. Assessment employs a range of methods including: coursework proposal, oral or written presentations, a learning agreement, portfolio, written reports, log book, artefacts and peer assessed verbal or visual presentations. You will be encouraged to present your work for assessment in a form appropriate to your research and practice. On successful completion, you should be able to: participate in, and engage with practice surrounding new and traditional media in respect of the disciplines aligned to contemporary arts practice; describe, interpret and evaluate artefacts, artworks and events from a range of critical perspectives, taking account of the context of their production, consumption and critical positioning; appraise and understand the role of the individual artist/designer/maker in society, applying analytical skills to any discipline or hybrid artwork practice.
