This highly practical course has been designed and is delivered with input from industry to help you establish or advance your career as a civil or structural design engineer. Accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM), this course meets the educational base for Chartered Engineer (CEng) status and successful completion provides automatic progression for holders of an accredited Bachelor’s degree. If you are seeking chartered status and currently hold an Incorporate Engineer (IEng) accredited or overseas undergraduate degree, we advise you to follow the MSc Civil Engineering (Technical route). The course is designed to develop knowledge and understanding of engineering principles and practices, together with methods used to analyse, design, test and monitor structural engineering systems, materials and structural performance. Assessment includes examinations, written tests, computer modelling work, your thesis and coursework, consisting of analysis and evaluation of a number of laboratory exercises, case study assignments and projects. On successful completion, you should have knowledge of: the application of systems theory to the management of projects in the construction industry; the regulatory and legal framework within which the construction industry operates; procurement systems and standard forms of construction contracts; safety and health in the construction workplace; and environmental principles and legislation applied to the construction industry.
