The role of the children and young people’s nurse in contemporary society is constantly developing and involves everything from nursing a sick, new born baby to an adolescent road accident victim. Care takes place in a range of settings, from hospitals to day care centres, though increasingly care is being delivered in the community and at home.This course is designed to equip you with the hands-on clinical and care skills to prepare you to practise autonomously and compassionately, providing family-centred care and building therapeutic relationships to become a caring practitioner well prepared to meet the needs of children, young people and their families.It takes a very special person to nurse a child or young person – respect, sensitivity and empathy are key characteristics. Children have very specific health needs and you need to understand how a healthy child develops towards adulthood to minimise the impact of illness.
